Weighing your baby

I use a class III, neonatal weighing scale which is approved for medical use in accordance with 93/42/EEC.  In order to ensure accuracy, I take the time to verify the scale using a certified test weight, prior to weighing every baby.  My scales are calibrated and serviced by the manufacturer annually.

The scale is highly sensitive (to 0.002kg) and is suitable for pre- and post-feeding weights (to measure milk transfer). It is important to note that test weighing provides only a snap-shot of one particular feed in a 24-hour period. While it can be a useful tool, test weighing to measure intake will only be considered and discussed where deemed appropriate.
